UTRGV Volleyball Team Joins Southland Conference

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) will be joining the Southland Conference (SLC) on July 1, 2021. This move will make UTRGV a full-time member of the SLC and will allow the school to compete in baseball, football, volleyball, and women's athletics.
UTRGV is currently a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), but will officially depart on July 1. The school decided to join the SLC in order to be closer to its natural rivals and to improve its chances of success in NCAA Division I athletics.
The UTRGV volleyball team is one of the most successful programs in the WAC. The team has won the conference championship four times in the past six years and has made three NCAA Tournament appearances.
The volleyball team will be joined by the UTRGV baseball, football, and women's athletics teams in the SLC. The school is confident that all of its teams will be competitive in the new conference.
